Are you looking for a recipe for a potato gratin that is easy to prepare and super delicious? Then you are exactly right here. And I’m happy to tell you my secrets of how it always works.
And it’s actually not that difficult at all! And my recipe even works without cheese.
What do I have to consider for a delicious potato gratin:
The most important thing is the choice of potatoes. They should be waxy and if you can also get the Annabelle variety in your local supermarket, then it will taste so much better! Because they simply have a special taste, a wonderful potato taste so to speak.
Then we continue with the preparation of the potato gratin.
To do this, first prepare an ovenproof casserole dish by greasing it with the butter.
Why? So that the gratin doesn’t stick to it later. In addition, butter is also a flavour carrier.
Then wash the potatoes, peel them and grate them directly into the form with a mandolin. But please be careful with the mandolin, it’s really very sharp, and you can cut yourself really badly with it. Seriously. I mean it.
Then I always take a separate bowl and add the onion, garlic, cream, and spices there. I then quickly whisk them together and pour it evenly over the potatoes before placing them in the hot oven.
Preparation:
Place the potatoes in a buttered oven proof dish
Evenly spread the potatoes in the form
Pour the onion, garlic cream above the potatoes
But beware—potatoes swallow the salt! What it means? They really need salt to brig out their beautiful flavour. So please don’t be stingy with it. 🙂
Otherwise, the gratin just tastes bland, and that would be a shame!
What can I serve with it?
Very classic, of course, a braised lamb shanks. Add some green beans and perfect.
But also just some Swabian meatballs – they always work beautiful with it.
Or, if you don’t feel like eating meat today, then just a delicious leaf salad, with a simple vinaigrette dressing.
Whatever you decide, enjoy the potato gratin!
