I love to admire all the fondant, buttercream and other gateaus/ cakes. And I love birthday cakes, don’t we all? And a birthday cake is a great way to celebrate the special occasion because it can be easily decorated according to the taste and preferences.

One of the most popular ways to decorate a birthday cake is to use sprinkles and colored icing. Or glitter. Chocolate! There are so many variations, so much to discover.

But baking a birthday cake from scratch every time can be a tricky task. You need to make sure that the cake is in the right shape and that you have all of the ingredients. And maybe even make a mock up if its a speciality cake …

That’s why I’m going to show you my favorite basic recipe for a marble cake today. Which can easily be turned into a birthday cake. Everyone can do it! It is so easy and so delicious! And the best part – done quickly! As sometimes we just run out of time.

The easiest thing is really a marble cake with chocolate icing and glitter and sugar pearls. Well, not everyone likes glitter though, so I have an idea how you can decorate the marble cake as a dinosaur. Or as a butterfly. Or a number cake.

There really are no limits to your imagination. And don’t forget – a birthday cake doesn’t have to be perfect! But it has to taste good! 😉

A birthday cake like that is just great! And the kids will love it. Believe me. I have baked my fair share of birthday cakes now and they just love a homemade birthday cake!

I have attached below the basic recipes for the marble cake, sugar icing and cream cheese frosting to make it easier for you.

All the best and have fun decorating!

Prepare the smarties sorted by color and then coat one wing at a time with the chocolate glaze and immediately cover with the smarties. It is really important here that you put the smarties on the still liquidy chocolate because only then they will stick properly to the cake.
